How to Set up Kickers:
F17K1 Horizontal extraction kicker set up to ping beam
horizontally: (See example pages below)
- Go
to I14 Page and load Device:
T:F17K1
- Select
ramp with clock event 54 (last one #E)
- In clk (clock event column) add 4C event to 1) . below 54 event.
- In the
f04() column change 1) and 2) from 3.25 Kv to
0.99999 Kv ( or to any value as directed)
- in the
dt column change 2) to 0.45
- Go to
T118 page 12
- Make
sure T:HPING1 and T:HPING2 the F17 Horizontal PING TRIG#1 and #2 are set
to 2.946499 secs
- Make
sure T:HPPFL
F17 H pinger
PFL Dly is set to 2.946 secs.
- Make
sure T: HPNG1D and 2D the F17 Horz. Pinger Pos and Neg Dly are set to .05 TREV
- Then
to Fire the F17 pinger issue the 4C event from the T61 screen page 4.
- When
you are done with F17 kicker please remove the 4C event from the ramp
control page.
E17 Vertical pinger set up (see
example pages below)
- This
kicker needs to first be manually turned on. So it is necessary to drive
out to the E17 house. (need a AC4 key to enter house)
- To
the left of the E17 house is located the crate for the E17 kicker. On the
lower left side of the crate are located three digital readouts in a row.
Below third rightmost digital read out is a small metal switch which must
to switched up to turn on.
- Below the middle digital read out is a
small reset button which needs to be pressed to reset the system.
- In
the upper right side of crate are located two analog style gauge windows
to the left of these two windows and the red high voltage button, is a
white fat on/off plastic switch. This white switch should be turned on.
- After
all the above switches are turned on the unit needs about 10-15 min to
warm up.
- When
use of the E17 pinger is no longer needed, it
should be fired a couple of times to discharge any remaining voltage on
the circuit.
- Then
the white switch, and small metallic switch
should be set back to the off position.
- Once
the E17 kicker has been manually turned on it is necessary to use the T118
screen page 12 to set it up correctly. First see that the E17 pinger has warmed up by going to the S53 screen. This
can be done by clicking on the column to the right of the kV units for the T:E17K1 devise
row. In place of the 1.81 Kv you should see DSTAT. If you click on DSTAT you
will be taken to the S53 screen and can check to and see if the High
voltage on and
read rows are on.
- Once
warmed up the kicker voltage can be controlled from the T:E17K1 row . Currently it is set to 1.81 kV which
delivers a kick of about 2 mm at 150 GeV
- The
timing can be controlled from the T:VPINGD E17
VERT PING TVBS DELAY which is currently set to .843 TREV. (note this timing kicks the P1 bunch at 150 GeV with 1.81kV. If the kicker voltage is changed the
timing necessary to kick the P1 bunch may change from .843 TREV)
- The
display should then be set to timer reference to see that the event
trigger is set to the 4C clock event.
- Finally
to enable the kicker the red star to the right of all the pinger rows needs to be removed by clicking on them.
- Now
the vertically pinger can be fired issuing the
4C event from the T61 screen page 4.
A final note: It is
good practice to create a fast time plot of the E17 and F17 kicker cap volts
and the loss monitors just up stream at E18 and E19 for the E17 kicker and at
F18 and F19 for the F17 kicker. This can
be done by plotting T:E17K1P (from 0 to 4) and T:LME18
and T:LME19 (from 0 to .4) for the E17 kicker and T:F17K1P, T:LMF18, T:LMF19 for the F17
kicker. Set these plots to trigger on the 4C event.
