Minutes of the Feb 4, 2005 Tevatron Dept Meeting 1. Mike McGee received a Letter of Recognition from the AD Head for his work during FY'04 shutdown (new CDF LB quad girder support columns eliminated "truck effect", SNEG pipes at D0 helped to improve the vacuum and background) - congratulations and many thanks! 2. Dept news: a) Mike Martens will join the Run II upgrade project managment as a Deputy (part time job); b) Tan, Pierre Bauer and Yuri Alexahin are invited for oral presentations at PAC'05 (May 16-20) while Mike Martens, Vahid Ranjbar and Steve Wolbers were selected for contributed talks; c) Ezio Todesco of CERN is visiting Tev Dept for some 4 weeks with the goal to learn about Tev operations and take part in beam studies - welcome!; d) Ron Moore's term as Tev Coordinator has started Feb 1; Vladimir thanked Tan (in his absence) for the job well done as previous coordinator. 3. Ron on Tev operations: 7 stores with luminosity between 105.16 (new record) and 65 (shoot from a smaller stack after quench in store 3958 due to VA35 corrector went crazy); did orbit smoothing 3 times - seems to help pbar loss in seq16 of squeeze; HV liquid (flourinert) in F17 kicker has been refilled again (every 11 days); 3 RF trips in stores (different stations); intermittent proton lifetime in stores (few stores with 60 hrs, then >130 hrs, then again lower) - not clear yet why. 4. Jim Volk on planned 4 shift access: the shutdown driven by the need to replace F17 kicker magnet (the spare is ready) that will take 32 hours; other jobs include A49 RGA, F0 vacuum, RF cavity water heaters, crystal collimator and D0 HLS, etc. Contact Jim if you plan to do smth in the tunnel over that time. 5. Vladimir presented a 2D plot showing amplitude of scallops (pbar emittance increase btw squeeze and HEP) vs E17 Schottky tunes: importance of 3/5 resonance is clear. Minutes recorded by V.
