Minutes of the June 17, 2005 Tevatron Dept Meeting 1. Dept news: a) many Tev people are due for safety training (GLs to track); b) TeV BPM project is officially over - many thanks to the CD and AD guys for the "new glasses"! 2. Jerry on operations: two stores since a week ago, L=86 and 99, one store died after C49 spark at the end of second scraping; no lumi for most of the week as we were recovering and purifying after CHL lost power last weekend; the spark resulted in 9 house quench (which was very fast and left no chance for our new quench detection system to catch it quickly). Just recently we happened to put an Accumulator-only store #4214 with L=68. 3. Bruce and Scott McCormack had installed a rad-hard RGA head at A49 separator and got first scans with beam; they see no hydrocarbons (good), no He, mostly C0, N2 and H2O and a bit of O2 - all that points toward a small leak. One more RGA will be installed in the future. 4. Vladimir analyzed luminosity progress since 2002 and figured out that Tev alignment in Fall'03 shutdown led (in average) to 9% increase of lumi integral per week; better reliability+reduced study time and more running time gave 36%; 2.5MHZ transfers and BLC in MI +9%, beta* change +20%, Tev octupoles, no precycle and use of dampers to 5% and (good news!) mixed source shots already provided some 6-11% boost in the weekly integrated luminosity. Numbers for peak luminosity are even better. See beams-doc-1875 for details. 5. Seva and XiaoLong have measured magnetic fields in the TEL-2 gun bend and found that B-field distribution quite close to simulations; also magnetic field lines (to be e-beam trajectories) are found OK, too (they fit the available vacuum pipe). 6. Vladimir presented for discussion a proposal for a new Tevatron working points either above or below 2/3=.667 resonance. They offer 40-90% larger tune space which may allow 40-90% more protons per bunch than what we have now (240-250e9) and proportionally higher peak luminosity x(1.5-2) and integrated luminosity x(1.3-1.5). Even now MI can deliver about 330 at LB. RF barrier bucket manipulations may boost Np till 400e9 if needed. Plan is staged with possibility to gain, then stop and decide at each stage - see beams-doc-1876. Minutes recorded by V. Shiltsev; edited by R. Moore
