Minutes of the Sep 23, 2005 Tevatron Dept Meeting 1. News: a) Vladimir brought a cake to thank the Department for exciting 4 years of Run II; he is out of the lab next week, starting Oct 1st Ron Moore will officially take over the Department; b) everybody should report efforts for the week of Sep 19 - ask Eva if you need help! 2. Ron on operations: 6 stores with initial Lumi btw 90 to 119e30, one ended by quench due to cryo controls problem; had 3 stores with new 28 cm beta* optics (see below); 25% of protons lost in #4397 at 150 GeV due to incorrect tune settings (low Qv). 3. Sasha reported that beta* reduction led to about 10% luminosity increase in CDF and close to 15% in D0 (more stores needed to get better statistics); losses tolerable, lifetimes acceptable, CDF waist z-position still needs to be moved by 5 cm; tunes may need adjustments - recent one led to scallops (emittance blowup after initiate collisisons) in #4399. 4. Tan analysed performance of his Tune Tracker which was used in 6 recent stores and showed that at 150 GeV it may lock to +-1 synchrotron lines; there is some uncertainty at the end of the ramp due to Schottky signal saturation (smth we live with for year(s)); TT consistently shows very low Qv=0.570 at 980 and in first steps in squeeze - smth we probably should pay attention to. 5. Vahid has turned ON his slow orbit stabilization application at the end of a store and it succesfully worked - kept orbits withing +-40 microns (HF jitter only); it is ON also in the present store #4399 (works great so far).
