Tevatron Octupole modifications in September of 2003

The Tevatron has always had 3 octupole circuits which have been operationally used only for Fixed Target operation.  The circuits are being modified to be used in Collider operation.  Two of the new circuits will be used to introduce horizontal and vertical tune spread.  The name of these circuits are T:OF and T:OD (Octupoles at focussing and defocussing locations).  The two other circuits will be used to provide differential chromaticity control for the Proton and Pbar helices.  These circuits work much like the feeddown sextupoles which are used to control the differential tunes.

The HOPS at F1 were previously named T:OZF and T:OZD.  These are the circuits that are now named T:OF and T:OD.  The HOPS at D2 was previously called T:O39S.  This has been renamed T:O1.  The HOPS at B4 was previously called T:Q39S and is now called T:O2.  All of the loops have at least some changes to their loads except T:OF.  The circuit configuration is shown in the table below.
